HUDSON: The Allstate Foundation awarded grants totaling nearly $300,000 last year to organizations around Ohio.
The foundation’s support helped communities address economic empowerment, tolerance, inclusion and diversity.
Among the recipients were groups in the Greater Akron area:
• Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE), $30,000 for its teen safe-driving initiatives in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.
• Junior Achievement of Akron, $25,000 for programming in schools around Summit County.
• Akron Urban League, $15,000 for its summer enrichment program.
Allstate also awarded $50,000 in grants through its Allstate Agency Hands in the Community program. The initiative recognizes agents’ commitment to community service with a $1,000 donation to the charity with which they volunteer.
Area recipients (agent and organization) are Lee Paulson, Akron Master Gardeners of Summit County; Bob Kenderes, Brunswick Near West Theatre; Darryl Dillenback, Canton Boy Scouts of America; and Lee Hamill, Cuyahoga Falls Battered Women’s Shelter.
